FATS MATTER
Fats provide essential nutrients, enhance flavor, and increase satiety — but not all fats are created equal. Learn which fats to use more of to support heart health.
Help your body get the most out of the fats you eat:
- Fats are important. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Eating mostly plant-based fats can help reduce the risk of heart disease.
- Aim for these fats from (mostly) plants. Nuts, seeds, avocados, and olives (and all the oils derived from them), along with oily fish, support short and long-term health.
- Plant fats are beneficial to your health. From a healthy heart to bright skin and a powerful brain, plant fats add much more than just a single benefit to your plate.
- Use fats strategically. Use fats to add flavor and texture to your meals without going nuts with the nuts.

Oils are for more than frying
Poaching in oil can feel intimidating, but it’s actually a simple cooking technique. Make this beautifully poached wild salmon in minutes to serve over whole wheat pasta and vegetables, all by itself, or even on a sandwich the next day.
Show your heart some love with these healthy foods
Good habits beget other good habits, so incorporating more heart healthy foods in your diet may just crowd out those that aren’t as beneficial.
